Kerstmarkt Brugge · Bruges Christmas Market
Bruges Christmas Market Audio Tour
The market fills the Markt — the square where a butcher and a weaver started a rebellion in 1302.
The tour opens on the square the market is built on, and the Belfry the chalets sit under is stop two. Bruges in December is dark by half past four, which suits a walk narrated in your ear rather than one shouted over a group.

The stops inside the market
The Kerstmarkt Brugge occupies Markt and Simon Stevinplein. These stops of the Bruges tour stand on those squares — you can hear them without leaving the stalls.
Markt (Market Square)
The commercial heart — and a 1302 rebellion
Bruges' beating heart, ringed with gabled guild houses. The statue honours a butcher and a weaver who led the 1302 Bruges Matins uprising — weeks before Flemish militia beat a French royal army outright.
Belfry (Belfort)
A tower built to outrank the church
Around 83 metres and some 366 steps, the tallest thing on the skyline since the 13th century. Built by the merchant guilds rather than the church, to hold the charters and treasury that kept Bruges self-governing.
Rozenhoedkaai
The view everyone already recognizes
Bruges' most-photographed viewpoint, and no accident — the curve of the canal frames the Belfry cleanly from the quay. Guild wealth, trade route and centuries of façades, all stacked into a single frame.
The other 7 stops carry on past the market. See the full Bruges tour.
What the stalls are standing on
The statue the stalls are arranged around is Jan Breydel and Pieter de Coninck, who led the Bruges Matins — a night in May 1302 when the city killed the French garrison in its beds, weeks before Flemish militia beat a royal army outright at Kortrijk.
When it runs
The Kerstmarkt Brugge runs from late November into the first days of January, alongside the Wintergloed light route.
